Day 341.
I had a flash of inspiration a few days ago after making a batch of popcorn for the kids and I to watch our nightly movie. I used to love cheese popcorn (the kind that comes in the holiday-scene tins). I’m sure it’s was full of unpronounceables, but it sure was tasty. That got me thinking about cheesy popcorn for vegans. So, I decided to try out a recipe using the Vegan Homemade Cheese Sauce Powder.
The kids love the mac and cheese made with it, so it stands to reason they’d like it on popcorn. Plus, all that protein from the cashews in the mix is a huge plus for a snack food. I think a sealed container of the powder with instructions for making popcorn and Kid-Friendly Vegan Mac and Cheese would also make a great holiday gift.
Cheesy Popcorn
Ingredients
- 4 cups popped popcorn
- 1/2 tablespoon melted margarine or 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Vegan Homemade Cheese Sauce Powder
- 1 teaspoon salt (optional)
Directions
Pour melted margarine or spritz olive oil over popped popcorn in a seal-able container or bag. Sprinkle on cheese powder and salt, if desired. Shake container to coat popcorn.
The Results
The kids absolutely loved this popcorn. It was a little difficult to get the cheese to stick. I think, in the future, I would throw the mix back in the grinder to grind it super fine before sprinkling it over the popcorn. I thought it was pretty interesting. My husband didn’t care for it, but he’s not fond of the nutritional yeast flavor, so that wasn’t unexpected. I think it’s definitely worth experimenting with again in the future or a simple repeat for the kids’ sake.
