Groucho was my first baby girl, and she’s been part of my life for over a decade. Since then, she’s been loved by myself and her grandparents and grand uncle. She’s known in my family by many names: G, Grouchita, The Mustache of the Kitty Mafia, Grouch, Grouchie, Mo-G and Fur Face.
But since the growth of my family, Groucho’s role has been enormous. She wholeheartedly approved of Mr. Meaty and begrudgingly accepted her two little sisters. And oh do her sisters love her! After “mommy” and “dad,” both Bug and Goose said “cat” and “Goucho” among their first words. And they still often refer to other cats as “other Grouchos.”
One of our fondest early memories with Bug is from around age 5 or 6 months. She was just getting mobile and every time Groucho entered the room, Bug would pinwheel her tiny arms and legs and yell “cat, cat, cat.” This prompted my dad to buy her a copy of CATmandu on CD for her next birthday.
Groucho, we love you and I couldn’t imagine our family without you in it.
The Real Stories Project is an app that collects the real stories of cat people everywhere. Cats are special to each of us – this is our way of celebrating how much of a role they play in our lives, all the memories we have had together, and the fact that they are always there for us, no matter what. This experience lives on yourcatstory.com, catchow.com, facebook.com/purinacatchow, and youtube.com/purinacatchow.
